Some info from Allen Smithman
The name 'Smytheman' originated when a John Smythe (gaelic version being 'Gow") married a Rebecca Sandiman, and they amalgamated the names to Smytheman. This happened in Scotland. The Gows were weaponers for the Macpherson clan for 500 years. Gow is a sept of the Macpherson clan. So, contrary to everyone's belief, we are from Scotland.
So, if anyone wants to wear a kilt, look up the Gow tartan and we are correct in wearing it.

Sad News - Beatrice McNicholl (nee Smitheman)
Hi all,
On behalf of Kathy and Mike, I just wanted everyone to know that our mother passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Misericordia Nursing Home in Winnipeg, MB. Our mother was born in St Hubert, PQ in 1921 and was predeceased by her husband and our dad. She was a great and caring mom who will be lovingly remembered by her 3 children, 6 grand children and 2 great grand children. Our mom used to enjoy the company of her sisters and brothers and loved working in her garden at her home in Greenfield Park. She always had a cheerful nature and was loved and respected by those who knew her. A celebrtion of her life will be held in Greenfield Park, date to be announced.
